Head on over to CNN Money and you can totally vote on who has the best beard in Silicon Valley. And that isn’t some kind of euphemism.Who’s winning? Steve Jobs, with some 45 per cent of the vote (at the time of writing). The boys at CNN Money chose Flickr’s Stewart Butterfield as their winner, but he looks more like a DJ than a power-beard. And does Flickr even make any money?
Does it matter? Yeah it does. The shame that the UNIX boys bought to facial hair in the 1970s has gone. Passed. Been put to rest. In the heady days of 2008, beards mean bucks. Beards and computers mean megabucks. Beards, for lack of a better word, are good. Beards are right. Beards work.
A beard clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. A beard, in all of its forms; beards for life, for money, for love, knowledge, has marked the upward surge of mankind. And beards, you mark my words, will not only save Silicon Valley, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA.
