And The 10 Most Popular “Celebrities” on Facebook Are…

Hi. I see you're new here. That's cool. To find out what this site is about, please read this page. You may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. It's free, you won't receive any spam from me (like, ever), but more importantly: you'll never miss a single word. Thanks for visiting!

insane. The reasonably new Facebook fan pages have taken off a bit over the past few months, but the popularity of certain individuals on there just beggars belief.

Check this motley crew out. (Fan numbers were all correct at the time of writing, but naturally are subject to change.)

Chris Moyles1. Chris Moyles

Chris Moyles! Chris “bloody” Moyles. The man’s popularity is hard to fathom at the best of times, but popular radio is quite an unusual beast. But how the heck did that translate to Internet fandom? Okay, Facebook isn’t exactly Reddit, but you think there would be some kind of intellectual filter in place.

Fans: 347,974

The Stig2. The Stig

Top Gear is one of the most popular television shows in the world, with a global audience estimated by the BBC as some quarter of a billion people. Which translates to a lot of hits. The Stig has a huge fan-base that borders almost on a cult, but #2 on Facebook? Really?

Fans: 233,112

Lee Evans3. Lee Evans

I’ve never really understood Lee Evan’s popularity. I mean, it’s all one sketch, isn’t it? The same thing over and over again? Clearly not, as Facebook loves him.

Fans: 138,826

Jabbawockeez4. Jabbawockeez

Who!? An “all-male dance crew from San Diego”, by all account, who became popular after appearing on America’s Got Talent. Enough said. They look a bit like a Halloween-tribute band; the Myers Five.

Fans: 126,243

5. Kat Von D

Kat Von DVon D is hot, but she’s also the master of self-promotion. Her MySpace page has over one million friends, and she uses all these tools to heavily promote her tattoo business. Which is fair enough.

Except Von D also recently set the world record for ‘Most Tattoos In 24 Hours’ - at 400. Four hundred. I bet 398 people went home pissed off that day.

Fans: 124,305

Peter Kay6. Peter Kay

Over one-hundred and twenty thousand people have raised Kay to the lofty heights of #6 celebrity on Facebook. How? Only about forty thousand people in Blackpool are above the age of 60.

Fans: 120,276

7. Achmed The Dead Terrorist

Achmed The Dead TerroristAchmed is the creation of US ventriloquist Jeff Dunham. Yeah - I’ve never heard of him either. But he’s a YouTube phenom, with this video having some 44 million views. How come he isn’t #1 on Facebook, then? Because it isn’t funny.

Fans: 89,248

Bill Bailey8. Bill Bailey

Yes, somehow, Bill Bailey is less popular than the modern-day ‘edgy’ take on Roger De Courcey and Nookie Bear.

Fans: 88,504

Jeff Dunham9. Jeff Dunham

Again! How the hell has this been allowed to happen? Technically Dunham’s combined fandom on here puts him at #3. I thought ventriloquists had been hideously embarrassing for decades now?

Fans: 87,280

Björn Gustafsson10. Björn Gustafsson

Björn Gustafsson is a Swedish comedian. He became popular on YouTube after making a World of Warcraft joke. This pretty much says everything you need to know.

Fans: 70,788.

How did this happen, Facebook - how?
