Motivational Mashup 13-06-08

Hi. I see you're new here. That's cool. To find out what this site is about, please read this page. You may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. It's free, you won't receive any spam from me (like, ever), but more importantly: you'll never miss a single word. Thanks for visiting!

It’s Friday 13th today - wooooo - so probably no better time to put all that malarkey to one side and focus instead on things that make us feel good.

Here’s a mashup of motivational, inspirational and downright groovy blogs, websites, articles, videos and books I’ve been fortunate enough to stumble upon this week.

Enjoy!

Dean Karnazes

I’ve mentioned Dean a few times on here this past week and with good reason - the man inspires me.

Ultramarathon Man

Karnazes is an ultramarathon runner. Some of his running accomplishments include:

  • Ran 50 marathons in 50 consecutive days in 50 different US States
  • 148 miles in 24 hours on a treadmill
  • 350 miles in 80 hours and 44 minutes - without stopping!

Having recently read his book, which I can’t recommend any higher (certainly if you’re a runner or thinking about running), I find myself spending a lot of time on his website, where you can download lots of cool videos and that kind of thing. He also has a blog I recommend checking out.

For a primer, read his slightly cherry-picked but still motivational article in Wired, and to get a grip of the controversy (and downright bitterness) the man has created in the previously shadowlike sport of Ultrarunning, check out this article from Outside magazine.

Very inspirational stuff. Does he have a major ego? Of course he does - that’s why he can do what he can do.

The Carnival of Improving Life

You’ll find a great collection of motivational articles in the thirteenth edition of The Carnival of Improving Life. They’ve also been kind enough to feature one of my own essays.

Good News For Coffee Lovers

Not only is a shot of caffeine a great performance booster prior to any endurance event, it can also help you post-race, too.
